If you’ve got 7 minutes to spend

A friend (one of my colleagues here in Finland) pointed me to this rather impressive video:
MUTO a wall-painted animation.

Watch it if you’ve got 7-or-so minutes of time to spend.

That is all.

Oh bugger

I recently received my salary for the very first time in my life, so I decided to treat myself to something nice.

A picture of my new phone

What I went with is a new mobile telephone. Not just any mobile telephone, but a 620 euro mobile telephone: An HTC TyTN II.
I read some good reviews about it so I had been wanting to buy it for some time now.

Of course, I don’t make 620 euros a month (It’s just a part-time job; I’m a full time student), but when combined with a 2-year 22,50 euros/month Vodaphone contract, together with a 9,50 euros/month Unlimited Internet BloX subscription, the phone was ‘only’ 270 euros. (Of course I’m also going to have to spend 32 euros a month for the next two years now :x)

So yeah, I’ll be enjoying my internet whilst on the road from now on, but I’ll also be enjoying the embedded GPS receiver and all the regular PDA-ness such as having a diary and being able to write e-mails.

Unfortunately I am known to be able to screw stuff up quite quickly. I bought the phone yesterday. Yesterday evening was when it went wrong: I ran the pre-installed Windows Live Messenger, and accidentally enabled the option where it syncs the phone’s contact list with the live account’s contact list.

This meant that I suddenly had all my Messenger contacts in my phone’s contact list, which was rather annoying because most of those contacts I don’t exactly call or e-mail (heck I rarely speak to most of them). So I tried disabling the option, only to find that the relevant checkbox was now grayed out (but checked). Silly as I am, I then started deleting all the useless contacts from my mobile phone’s contact list. Which of course meant that all those contacts also got deleted from my Live Messenger contacts.

This means that I now suddenly have some 60 contacts less than I used to. Luckily enough, all my old contacts are still in my ‘Allow to speak to me’ list, so I should be able to get most of them back.
Still, I wasn’t happy with Live Messenger digging itself into Windows Mobile like a friggin rootkit, so I did a hard reset and all was well. :o

My first real drive

June 25, 2007 on 5:49 pm | In Life, Other | No Comments

This Saturday we went to a party at a sort of ‘Party Farm’ outside the town of Hoevelaken. This seemed like a nice ‘Maiden Voyage’ to get the hang of our (automatic handling) car and such.

Here’s the trip I ended up driving. The destinations in between were places where I had to reverse in order to find the address I was looking for.

While driving northbound over the A30 it suddenly started raining so hard, the windshield wipers couldn’t keep up. Not the type of weather you’d want to have when you’ve barely got the hang of the car you’re driving :)

And then after leaving the A30, as can be seen on the map, I drove on a road which had really annoying turns.
After that, when I was past Hoevelaken, I had to drive on very narrow roads. And I don’t know why but people in Hoevelaken seem to like big American cars or something, and they really don’t like making way for approaching cars…

So all in all it was a pretty tough drive, but I did okay.

In other news, I’m going to the UK this Friday to go to the TT-Forums meeting and to visit my sister in Oxford. :o
Exciting stuff.

Argh.

I have just removed a wasp from my room.

No year has gone by where there was not a wasp nest somewhere in the house. Every year there’s at least one. If it’s not in our house, it’s in the garden of the neighbours and they find a way into our house anyway.

I’m starting to hate wasps with every fiber in my body. Why can’t they stay outside? >:(

New car!

Well, just a short post.

Just wanted to tell you all that the new car arrived, a VW Touran.

Too bad I can’t drive in it for another couple of months: My 18th birthday is in June (20th), and after that I’ll still need to get driving lessons :o

I’ll post something bigger when I have time.

Script(s)

March 2, 2006 on 2:46 am | In Computing, Other | 5 Comments

Well, I finally added something new to the site!

Maybe you already noticed it, maybe you didn’t, but the navigational bar at the top of the screen has a new Scripts tab.
Currently there’s only one script, which I mainly wrote for Born_Acorn, but I figured I had to start the portfolio section sometime with something. So that’s now, with rss2png.

Furthermore, I noticed there’s been a lot of new posts on Planet TT-Forums lately (including quite a lot of posts by me, as of late).
I must say it’s good to have something new to read every 3 or 4 hours ;)

Night of Fire!

January 11, 2006 on 10:02 pm | In Other | 2 Comments

Some guy gave me this link on IRC the other day:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=426566504844044258

I quote the page:

This is a cover of the well-known eurobeat hit NIGHT OF FIRE, by the HINOI Team, and Korikki. Korikki is a wrestler guy. It’s… odd.

The girls are actually quite hot.
And then some other guy told me today that they’re all loli’s (AKA underage) :|

Hacking around

January 7, 2006 on 4:12 am | In Other | 1 Comment

So here I am, lying in bed with my laptop, being bored.

I decided to get started on hacking around in the blog’s theme so I could possibly turn it into my Website’s design as well.
I’m not 100% sure if this would be allowed under the terms of the GPL license, but I’m going to give it a go anyhow; I think I’ll try making my own design not too long afterwards in the first place.

As said, I started with some basic hacking around. I moved the list of Pages from the top navigational bar to the sidebar (notice how the link to the About Me page has moved to the sidebar).

I plan to use the navigational bar at the top of the page for the actual site navigation.
Further more I plan to fix some other nuisances while I am at it. For example, this theme does not list links in their own categories but instead just lists them all and places the ‘Blogroll’ header above the list; Even when there isn’t even a link category called Blogroll.

Oh, and I upgraded to Wordpress 2.0 again, just for the heck of it.
Turned off the WYSIWYG editor first thing. Annoying little bugger.

Plans for the site

January 4, 2006 on 1:15 am | In Other | 4 Comments

The About Me page was an interesting addition recently, and it has sparked my interest. I’m thinking about other things to add to the site, apart from the blog.

Not only am I wondering about the actual new content, I am also looking at various ways to ‘present’ the page.

I could choose for a similar solution as Sionide, in which case the website is completely ‘detached’ from the blog.
Or I could go for Owen’s solution, in which case the blog is somehow embedded into the page design.

Currently I’m leaning towards the latter solution. Although, funilly enough, I do like what Sionide’s done to his page. The colors are very neat. This is usually my biggest problem; Finding colors. (And then when I have some nice colors, I mess up the design anyhow)
I am already planning on hacking around a bit - or heavily, rather - in this blog’s theme so I might as well try to make it into my website’s theme.

Anyhow, I’m looking for suggestions and ideas concerning the various things I could add (I’ve got some ideas myself already) and how to implement it all. Give me your input! :o

Happy New Year!

January 1, 2006 on 12:00 am | In Other | 2 Comments

I wish to wish you all a happy new year.
Have a good 2006 :)

I’m not actually writing this at the moment, but I’ve written it in advance, so you’ll have to wait for any interesting stories about New Years Eve.

Woo!

Moved to a new server, I have

October 18, 2005 on 1:11 pm | In Other | 1 Comment

Yes indeed, about a day or two ago I moved to Yoda.
Although the host is still the same (Owen Rudge) his hosting company (Zernebok) moved to new servers in… The Netherlands!
This means that the site is quite a bit faster for me, and what’s more important than that, eh?

Funilly enough mr Rudge appears to have opted to take colocation at Eweka, which is also my usenet provider! Small world. But certainly a good choice if you ask me, because their connection is very fast (looks like they’re connected directly to the Amsterdam Internet Exchange)

So, day two of my holidays. Didn’t do too much yet. Slept till about 1:00 PM, got behind my PC, played some games, and that’s about it. Think I’ll go work for school later today. I still have so much to do!

Rubiks Cube Solver

August 27, 2005 on 7:49 pm | In Computing, Other | 1 Comment

Amazing what a person can find with google.

After someone showed me this image I googled for “world warcraft rubik’s cube”.

The “I feel lucky” result was this: Rubik’s cube solver done in Lego.

Cool.
