On toenails
February 27, 2006 on 4:19 pm | In Life | 4 CommentsI went to see the doctor today.
I’ve been having a painful nail ever since new year’s eve.
It all started over a year ago when I decided to kick the wall instead of the football in gym class.
The nail turned nice and blue and, after 2 months, simply fell off.
Then, with new year’s eve, someone stood right on the flesh next to the nail, which hurt a lot.
Ever since, it’s been hurting a lot and, recently, bleeding, every time I hit something.
So, diagnose: Ingrowing toenail.
Treatment: Local anaesthetic, clip the nail and, my favorite bit: inject a corrosive fluid (femol) into the root to stop it from ever growing into my flesh again.
All this shall be happening next Wednesday.
Yes, again…
February 26, 2006 on 12:59 pm | In Computing | 2 CommentsHeh, AntiVir didn’t remove everything, it seems.
I kept having some strange network problem where none of the applications would work. mIRC ended up being the only program telling me what was up: “No buffer space available”.
After some googling (on my laptop) I found this page. I recognised the virus name, so I looked at the info.
Then I booted to safe mode and removed all the files and changed all the registry keys that were mentioned on the Advanced tab of said page.
So far so good; I’m not having any problems yet, and it doesn’t look like windows has stubbornly replaced the removed files, either.
Time will tell if it’s truly completely gone, though.
In other news, I’ve worked on my website! Woo!
What did I do, you ask?
Well, I’ve applied the blog’s style to the placeholder page, made it valid XHTML 1.0 Strict and added an automatic redirect after 5 seconds; Suffice to say, the world has become a better place.
Not again…
February 25, 2006 on 9:43 pm | In Computing | 5 CommentsOh the irony.
I never get computer virusses. I’ve never needed virus scanners or even firewalls, simply because I’m generally not stupid enough to fall for malware or infected attachments alike.
However, ever since I started downloading stuff off of usenet, I started getting virusses.
Just about 3,5 weeks ago I managed to get a virus, so I backed up my Documents and Settings (and with it, my Thunderbird files) and reinstalled my Windows (yay for having a dedicated System partition meaning I don’t lose too much data when I reinstall).
Now for the irony bit: I got a virus again today. And in the same way as before: a fake key generator. Most annoying. According to AntiVir the virus is not a very dangerous one, but it is certainly annoying: explorer.exe stops responding, and with it, my desktop. And I suddenly lost my network connection…
I guess the moral of this story is not to trust crackers ![]()
Life went on
February 9, 2006 on 6:21 pm | In Life | 10 CommentsSo, no blog from me recently. Somewhat of a trend, judging by the recent postings on Planet TT-Forums. I’ve not blogged anything because nothing really happened, but over time, some stuff did happen.
I met an old classmate today! I promised him a shout-out on my blog (long story.. (or actually not)), so:
Hi Sjevy.
I’ve lately been busy with two things: My project at school and being ill.
My project’s goal is to make an ebay-like auction website with 4 other people using Java Server Pages and - believe it or not - Microsoft Access for the administration application :’( And to think this project is actually a project for an actual client (behind the scenes).
I’ve also been sick during the last weekend. Friday night I suddenly got very tired and it stayed like that until Monday, together with a fever, and various other symptoms. I’m not certain if it was a flu or food poisoning, however.
