End of the holidays

October 23, 2005 on 12:14 am | In Life |

Well, the holidays draw to a close, which is both too bad as well as quite good because I started to miss going to school, funilly enough.
Here’s a list of what I did over the past few days:

Impressive, isn’t it?
I did absolutely nothing!

Well no, I did do something.

The uber1337 SDL-powered gameI created the program you see depicted to the right. Marvelous, isn’t it? I wanted to create a game similar to C&C Red Alert. I figure it shouldn’t be too hard: The view is not isometric or 3D, just your regular grid. I wanted to do it because Red Alert is cool and I wanted to program something and learn how to use SDL. However, I have to think things through first. Just recklessly throwing code into a .c(pp) file (as was my original plan) doesn’t produce very clean and efficient code (in more than one way) :).
Unfortunately I have so far been unable to compile and build FreeCnC, an open source remake of CnC and Red Alert by ‘IRC-semi-friend’ prencher and some other guy I don’t know. That’s a shame because I wanted to try contributing to that (but actually the project is rather dead according to prencher).

So, as I said, I miss school. Not so much because I miss my classmates (heck I don’t hate seeing them again but I don’t miss them either :p) but more because, like I said earlier, I tend to do NOTHING during the holidays. School is what makes me active, especially because I like doing the stuff I have to do for this school I go to.

  2. Lol, sounds like me during holidays: Not doing a single thing useful :)
Wake up too late, play games, eat somewhere during a short break, go to bed, again too late, and have nothing achieved.

I prefer a day of school cause it’s only like 5 hours of study *ahem* and then you’re off to home and then do something fun :)

Exactly my point! :) The ICA is fun, my schedule isn’t too bad, and I usually end up going home earlier, without problems (not advisable to do that at high school) and then when you’re home you can do something fun because you already did something useful, not to mention that the fun stuff usually IS useful in some way. A day of school gets me to do stuff because I’m in the right state of mind or something like that.

  5. On the one hand you’re right, I often feel the same way about the holidays, but on the other hand my parents won’t allow me to go out in the evenings if I’ve got to get up early and go to school the next morning.

And actually … we are not really doing anything useful at school, unlike you guys, so it’s not that much of a change to be sitting around at home, without any useful activity : >
