Banking
July 21, 2005 on 3:11 pm | In Life |Well, today I finally did all the stuff I have been promising I’d do for the last 2 weeks.
This includes
- Going to the bank to transfer a whole bunch of moneys
- Sending some stuff to my new school, such as a copy of my diploma
And jeez, what a silly bank it is. I had a savings account which I cancelled after some time. My money was then deposited on a brand new account at the same bank instead of my already existing account with another bank. After making a whole load of a phone calls to various departments of the bank, I was told to go to the local office and to transfer the money.
When I got there, they just told me they couldn’t transfer it, but they could order some forms for me or I could make a phone call, but if I were to do that, it would cost me 9 euros.
Why can’t companies just have a central phone number which can do everything?
Something which was interesting, however, also happened.
I was preparing to go to said bank and while doing so, I thought to myself “Hmm, I wonder if the CD I ordered has arrived yet”. 2 seconds later, the phone rings. Guess what? Music Store. “the Soilwork album you ordered has arrived”.
I think I might have psychic powers.

I had fun with the bank yesterday too, now that I’m 18, I’m entitled to a Highline card instead of my Cashline card (ie, it contains a Switch/Mastro debit card which I can use online, and a cheque guarantee card). I filled in the form and sent it off last week, and got a letter back yesterday saying that “my application was rejected”, but they didn’t say why. After phoning my branch, I was told to phone some other department in Glasgow. I phoned them, and they told me to phone another department somewhere else, which I did. They couldn’t figure out why the application was denied, and told me to contact my branch again…. I did this, and it turns out it’s possibly because I’ve just turned 18, but possibly also because I don’t have a regular income as such. They suggested I upgrade to the student account (which I was going to do anyway), so I’ve got an appointment at the bank next Wednesday to get everything sorted. *sigh*
Anyway, you…. you…. alcoholic! Oh, wait, that was IRC, but it’s still true.
